Chirakkal V. Krishnan

Prof. Chirakkal V. Krishnan had a distinguished career in teaching and research, since 1967, at the University at Stony Brook as well as at East Islip High School. As Director of Chemical Education at the University, he promoted school-university partnerships. His United States Presidential Award, Disney American Teacher Award, National Catalyst Award, Nichols Award, numerous research publications in physical chemistry, photochemistry, ionic solutions, and contributions to research books in solution thermodynamics attest to his high ability and varied interests. He has performed more than 800 chemistry demonstration shows that include several past I-CON events. After retirement in 2002 he has involved himself in new fields of research viz., nonequilibrium spatio-temporal oscillations of molecules of biological origin, electronic properties of natural biological molecules for the development of therapeutic agents such as POLYMVA for treatment of cancer at Garnett McKeen Laboratory, Inc, Bohemia and controlled drug delivery for pain management at Stony Brook Technology and Applied Research.
