Gary Gygax Tribute April 5th, 2008 8:00pm:
On April 5th, 2008 at 8:00pm all gaming in Ballroom A will cease for 4 minutes and silence will be observed for the passing of the father of Role Playing E. Gary Gygax and in honor of the 4th edition of his brain child Dungeons and Dragons.
As we all know Gygax was a writer and game designer, best known for co-creating the pioneering role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) with Dave Arneson, and co-founding the company Tactical Studies Rules (TSR, Inc.) in 1973. Gygax is generally acknowledged as one of the fathers of the tabletop role-playing game.
Gary Gygax, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.
During this moment of silence we will encourage every gamer at every table to roll a D20. Any critical 20's rolled we will enter those gamers name into a hat and draw a name, that person will win a special prize in Gary's honor.

D&D 4th Edition at I-CON 27: Don't fret! Although we are getting closer to the Convention we are working out the final details with WotC guests Mike Mearls and Bill Slavicsek to bring you D&D 4th Edition demonstrations. I-CON 27 is proud to bring I-CON gaming members a chance to play the game before it hits the shelves this spring, and play with the designers as well. Besides the demos we will be holding a D&D 4th edition Q&A panel with Mike and Bill to have any of those last minute questions answers. So bring your dice and get ready to roll those natural 20's because D&D 4th Edition is almost here!
- Gamer Cage Match: There can be only one! Competitive party games with
gaming celebrities -- Pictionary, Charades, Pitt, Cranium, Taboo, Wise +
Otherwise, and others. We've invited ChaosVizier, of the Live
Journal Daily Quiz, to be Master of Ceremonies for this affair you
don't want to miss. You may know him better as Hans Grohmann, winner
of the Master of Orion III Novel Writing Contest. We need your help
right now playing "Where's 9th Level Games"? We would be extremely
grateful if anyone knows how to contact the founders, Dan Landis and Chris
O'Neill (Kobolds
Ate My Baby). Once found, let us handle asking them nicely to run a
Kobolds Ate My Baby Midnight Massacre here at I-CON. Send us an email if
you have a lead. Thanks!
-
- Firefly Shindig: This has become almost as popular as all the wild and
lurid tales told about Inara's adventures with her pirate captain! Come
join a multi-media event celebrating all things Firefly with your hosts,
Jamie & Renae Chambers and the Browncoats of NYC. Expect fan videos, costumes and
singing. Maybe even shinys to snack on.... strawberries? This went over so
well, Oscar Rios is considering hosting a Call of Cthulhu party, complete
with the Call of Cthulhu movie. We'll keep you posted.
-
- L33t Street: This is X MARKS THE SPOT RIGHT HERE. An exhibition RPG
session that features an exclusive game premiere written by the Guest(s) of
Honor, based on their game setting and run with their game system. It is
an open invitation to all of this year's guests to sit at the table and show
us what *real* gaming is. Remember the hush that fell over the room when
James Bond joined Le Chiffre's high-stakes poker tournament in Casino
Royale? We're doing something out of the ordinary this year, by having a
joint Guest of Honor Award. Half of the buried treasure is a preview of 4th edition Dungeons & Dragons. When we confirmed the
attendance of both Bill Slavicsek and Mike Mearls, they were busy putting
the finishing touches on the release. The other half is the finest yarns
found in the 'Verse, the Colonial Fleet, and whatever paranormal surprises
can be discovered at Margaret Weis Productions. We're haggling now on the
details, but will let you know the final outcomes.
Now, on to our Confirmed Guests:
-
Margaret
Weis Productions. Jamie Chambers, his wife Renae, and his brother,
Digger Hayes, will come down for the Serenity
RPG and Battlestar Galactica RPG. MWP just got the license for
a horror RPG, Supernatural.
- WotC, as in Wizards of
the Coast. Mike Mearls said he'd be honored to come hang with us
and Bill Slavicsek is happy to see us again. As mentioned
previously, they're bringing 4th edition with them.
- Catalyst Game
Labs. Herb Beas, Line Developer for Classic BattleTech, and
his wife, Beckie, have accepted our invitation. Let us or wargaming know
what you'd like to see happen with these fine folks.
- Chaosium. Oscar Rios is returning for more Cthulhu capers. He
would be thrilled to run games, a horror seminar, a panel or two and...
that Call of Cthulhu party.
- Fear the
Boot. Podcasting will be represented by Dan, John, Adam H
and Christina H.
- Raiding Party
Games. Zachary Anderson, the owner, will be demoing his game,
Mad
Scientist University. MSU just got sold to Atlas Games around
Thanksgiving. He may just be a good resource for the Do-It-Yourself
crowd.
- Dave Fooden (C°NTINUUM: Roleplaying in The Yet™) is eager to come
back for another round.
- Long time D&D player, Paul Genesse's "...third short story, The Pirate Witch,
is featured in The
Pirates of the Blue Kingdoms (May of 2007) from Popcorn Press. The
follow up to the Pirate Witch, is The Queen's Ransom, published in Blue
Kingdoms: Shades and Specters (October 2007, Walkabout Publishing)." I
first met him at GenCon, when he gave a very well-crafted presentation on
world creation for gaming. Let's see if we can get him to elaborate
further.
- Prepare to be double-teamed by the amazing Luke Crane (Burning Wheel) and Jared
A. Sorensen (Memento Mori
Theatricks), sure to make you walk the plank if your Indie game design
is shoddy. If that little bit of keel hauling wasn't enough for you, we've
got Steve Jackson
Games' Men in Black and R. Talsorian's Chrome
Berets bringing demos of their best games.
We are parleying with the following: Evil Hat Productions, whose Spirit of the Century was
voted Independent Game of the Year for 2006, and are
currently play-testing their next project, the Dresden Files RPG;
steadfast SlugFest Games and Chris Adams (Yamara & Aether Tales comics).
The Track will offer Events, Panels, Seminars, Workshops, and Meet & Greets
based on "classes" that will focus on different aspects of gaming: Design,
Flavor Text, Game Craft, The Industry, and Social Issues. If you have
another suggestion for a class focus, please let us know!

Threads: Los Angeles" - a Film Noir/ Cyberpunk game in the Threads of Damocles Setting brought to you by Threads of Damocles
Los Angeles, 2058. The word on the street is that the unsteady peace between the three megacorporations that control the city is about to shatter. As the next election approaches everyone is afraid that one of the Corps will start a war rather than risk their candidate losing in the polls. A war all but guarantees that the anti-capitalist Movement will join the fray, and a Movement victory all but guarantees that the city falls into chaos. Amidst these tensions, an underground group known as Les Invisibles has announced an "End of the World" rave and called in enough markers to ensure that there will be plenty of VIPs in attendance – it's a perfect meeting place… or a perfect trap.
In a universe reminiscent of Blade Runner, William Gibson, and Over the Edge where Corp Warriors, Execs, Independents and Outlaws mix in an underground music scene with Occult Overtones, the future of Los Angeles will be determined. Overtones focus on political intrigue, Character Drama, and some Adventure. Come prepared to wheel, deal, or dance. (Adult Situations)

The Duke's tyrannical rule has been overthrown and a full commoner uprising has engulfed the land, driving all nobility to the hills in fear. With threats of outside interference from fearful nobility and dangerously militant commoners calling for a free state forged in blood, the survivors of what is becoming known as the Bread and Circuses ball must come together to reforge peace in their Duchy.
