Captain Zorikh is a multi-talented writer, artist, actor, director, and musical entertainer, swordfighter, and grappler. He has been seen recently on TV in Sci-Fi Science, Toni On New York, NY Rocks TV, and MTV Video Music Awards. His work has been published in Alter Ego magazine and the Comic Book Artist's Guild Anthology. He is the publisher of Watch This Space Magazine and has released seven CD's of his music. His short film "Combat Twister" was screened at I-CON last year, and he is currently working on his first feature, "Redemption", a movie about submission grappling. He has competed in armored combat with the Society for Creative Anachronism for 23 years, and runs New York Knights, a company specializing in medieval entertainments, armor, and accoutrements for all occasions. He brings his highly popular lecture, "History of Armor and Chivalry", back to I-CON for the 6th straight year. He runs the website and blog Captain Marvel Culture, which chronicles the history of the many Captain Marvels, and will be giving his lecture this weekend. There have been at least ten different superheroes from four different companies who have used that name since 1940. They have been male, female, white, black, straight, gay, robot, and alien, outsold Superman, been confused for each other, died and been cancelled, split body parts, fought Nazis, bigotry, xenophobia, and alien invasions, both led and followed popular trends in comics, been cloned, turned into energy, and been romantically involved with old ladies and same-sex dragons. All of this means that a study of the history of the name of Captain Marvel will take us through a history of comic books, popular culture, and America like no other comic book superhero can! As the Death Star Repairman, Captain Zorikh has brought his hilarious Star Wars-themed songs to the I-con stage, the Cabaret, and the Filk Sing. This year he will be entertaining at the Star Wars Variety Special with some of his favorites of the CDE "The Death Star Repairmen: Another Night in Mos Eisley." |
