Game show-panels returning to Anime Live

If there are anime fans out there who want to test their nerdy-dom then I have a few great ideas for you - try some of these game-show styled events returning to ICON for their second year! Some of these games even offer chances at prizes (but more info on that soon). Here's a breakdown of the games you can try to enter:

Name That Tune: It's exactly what it sounds like, we play a clip from a song and you have to name what it is. Now, we understand that not everyone can speak Japanese, or therefore properly pronounce the titles or artist names, so If you don't know the song's name, you can always answer with the show and season that it came from - but you need to know both - or someone else might take the prize! This is a sweet and simple game, each round only lasts a few minutes so it's great if you have another event to attend!

Fanboy Feud: To those who are familiar with Family Feud this should sound awfully familiar. In this game, a number of surveys are compiled with data from anonymous fans (anime clubs, forums, etc). To play all you have to do is volunteer - if you have a group of four that's great, if not you'll be paired with other fans (a great way to make new friends!). Then all you have to do is answer the questions with what you think is the most popular responses! It's that easy! These rounds are fairly long, so you have to be in it to win it!

Anime Squares: This game is still in the works, but we can guarantee that it'll be fantastic. What we can tell you is that the gameplay is based very close to that of an old game show called "Hollywood Squares" and that many of our Anime Guests will be in attendance! Check back regularly to learn more about it!

More games are in the works, but many of them may not make the cut, if you have a game show you've seen at another con, or would like to run such an event, get in contact with our friends at anime live (animelive@iconsf.org) and let us know your thoughts!

Anime Panels

AMV 101 - Come in to learn the basics of AMV making. We will teach you how to make your idea into a reality by learning the simple steps to forming a solid concept and applying it to create a video.

AMV Critique Session - Where AMV artists and beginners can bring some of their own works-in-progress to get feedback from a groups of peers and AMV fans. AMV artists are expected to have brought their AMVs on a USB Drive (or other computer media) for showing purposes

AMV Tools and Tech - Here, we will discuss how to do special effects using Sony Vegas with an emphasis on key frames and masking. Come prepared with questions if you want to learn how to use a specific effect.

AniMyu (Anime Musical) - Japan has done something wonderful with your favorite Anime; turn it into a musical! The Prince of Tennis, Bleach, Naruto, Black Butler, Pheonix Wright and Sailor Moon are a few examples of this musical mania. Join us on a trip into AniMyu and see what they’ve done to your favorites.

Calligraphy: A History - Calligraphy is a branch of penmanship in which alphabetical symbols are considered as a means of artistic expression. Mr. Liotta presents an interesting history of the art, including its origins, practitioners, styles readily in use, and diverse types of equipment that have been developed through the centuries.

Choose Your Anime - A villain must choose from one of three heroes! Audience members are chosen to play either the villain looking for his nemesis or one of three hero candidates. This event is certainly a different spin to a classic Dating Game!

I-CON 29 Abridged - The wonderful world of abridging. Panelists explain the history and popularity of abridged series and will instruct how to make an abridged series.

Introduction to Japanese I - Perfect for those who wish to learn the basics of Japanese. This panel covers the differences between the four alphabets used in Japanese and conversation fundamentals (including introductions, expressing likes and dislikes, and basic questions).

Introduction to Japanese II - A more in-depth look at commonly used Kanji, basic sentence structures, and simple conjugations. Includes pop culture examples to make the best out of future con' experiences!

Japanese Manga v. American Comics - Joe Liotta discusses the origins of both Japanese manga and American comic books, and introduces the major differences between the two forms regarding art and story-telling styles, along with demonstrating some major translation problems involved when publishing Japanese manga in America.

Most Dangerous Anime - Your favorite panel is back and its content is worse than ever! Featuring the Manga Video Swearing Orchestra, hilarity ensues while watching what have been nominated as MOST DANGEROUS ANIME!

Most Dangerous Anime: Too Dangerous for the Underage! (18+) - Featuring WOUNDED MAN! For Anime just too dangerous for the underage and the faint of heart!

Pirates v. Ninjas - The ultimate question that has stumped millions! Join panelists as they discuss the differences and similarities of pirate and ninja culture, fighting, etc. Specific topics to be determined by the audience and/or panelists.
