Matt Hawkins

Website: http://www.fort90.com

Matthew Hawkins originally hails from the Pacific Northwest, where he was raised on a steady diet of Transformers, Marvel comics, and Canadian sketch comedy. Matt also developed a talent for drawing robots and hot dogs, hence the decision to move to New York City to study art, but for the past seven years, video games has been his main forte.

Not long after he received his degree in cartooning, Matt found himself at Ubi Soft, one of the top names in the game industry. As the head designer of their New York studio, he designed, developed, and consulted on several games for major gaming consoles and the internet, as well as conducted research into the future of gaming technology and trends. When Ubi Soft closed its NY studio, Matt moved onto the indie game dev scene and began concentrating on the web and cell phones titles, which led to the formation of his very own company, PixelJump. Aside from developing original content, he has been especially involved with games based upon films and television properties, either as a designer or a consultant. On that end, Matt has thus far worked with Sony Classics, Paramount, Warner Bros, and Miramax. And besides making games, Matt also teaches a history and introduction to game design coarse at his alma matter, the School of Visual Arts, plus he's been an active member of the local chapter of the International Game Developers Association.

Matt is also quite entrenched in the world of video game journalism, and his writings can be found quite literally everywhere, from print to online. Both past and present publications include Nickelodeon Magazine, GMR, 1-UP MegaZine, the Internet Archive, Insert Credit, Select Button, Gamasutra, and GameSetWatch. Additionally, Matt is also working on a textbook that's due sometime this year, and he even has a semi-popular game-centirc blog.

These days, Matt is busy as always, with his game dev projects and assorted writing gigs. But he's also involved in other projects as well, such as helping to develop a "game smart" television series, doing bits of "acting" for the Weekly World News Online, and even putting together a comic book anthology based on wild and wacky and very much true tales. Plus when he has the time, Matt still enjoys drawing robots and hot dogs. For more information, just visit http://www.fort90.com.
