John Sheehan displayed an unconventional sense of humor and an over active imagination growing up. While attending Kings Park Senior High School, his cartoon, "Sheehan's Vortex" (which saw the first appearance of Barney Duck), was so controversial that the school required the strips to be submitted to the school board for review and approval after a one comic had a giant prophylactic giving testimony at a paternity hearing.
Beginning in 2006, John launched "No Parking Web Comic" at http://www.bymagic.com. Set in the fictional Chaney Wild Life Park, it follows the adventures of Park Ranger Amanda and the animals in her care:
Barney Duck, anarchist, player of pranks and time traveler; Pax Rabbit, a hippy who is 'out of it' most of the time but is really a genius; Mouse, who talks to God; James T. Kaat, the park cop and one time ruler of the rogue nation of Furdonia; and Penny, the goth ranger cadet. The comic allowed John to bring his absurdist point of view to a mass audience.
Beginning in March 2007, he will launch his first serious sci fi comic, "Blakstun", which is a throw back to the science fiction stories and TV shows he loved as a kid.
John lives on Long Island in New York with his wife Sandra, his son Christopher and his daughter Isabelle. |
