I-CON's Electronic Gaming track has exciting and intriguing programming planned for this year's 25th anniversary convention. We have many interesting panels lined up of few of which include The Evolution of Online Gaming, The Art of Video Games, Flamewars and Trolls, and much much more! We will have a multi-person gaming room set up featuring several tournaments in today's most popular games as well as a Machinima contest and an amateur game programming showcase! We also will have several guests in the gaming industry from around the country, and while we do not want to give away any details of this year's guests at the moment, some of our previous guests have included Matt Hawkins, Mike Tresca, and John Carmack.

Electronic Gaming/PC Gaming:

In our PC Multi-Player Game Rooms, you can check out a number of newly released titles, as well as finding a number of favorites from prior years, and participate in tournaments on some of the hottest titles. Like last year we will have 2 separate rooms for gaming. One for single player games and the other for multiplayer games.

Tournaments confirmed so far:

  • Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millenium (PS2)
  • Guilty Gear X2 #Reloaded (XBox)
  • The King of Fighters 2003 (PS2)
  • Mario Kart: Double Dash (GC)
  • Soul Calibur III (PS2)
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC)
  • We Love Katamari (PS2)

And, introducing Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 (GC Import)

Entrants may use their own controllers (modifications are allowed within reason).

There will also be a Portable Systems meet (time to be announced), allowing players with PSP, Nintendo DS and other portable systems to gather and play their favorite multiplayer games. Bring your A-game (and your batteries)!

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates.

We are currently in discussions with computer game publishers regarding additional titles. More tournament games will be determined once we know which titles will be available in the labs. If you have questions or suggestions, please send e-mail to e_gaming@iconsf.org.

Machinima Contest:

For the first time is I-CON history we will be having a Machinima contest! Machinima is the creation of works of cinematic art under the medium of a video game. It is an art form on the rise becoming more and more popular due to the influence of such shows as Red Vs Blue and countless World of Warcraft based videos. If you are interested in entering, rules can be found here as well as a small tutorial on encoding your work into one of our acceptable formats.

User Meets:

As previous years I-CON will be hosting a plethora of user meets for various games such as but not limited to, World of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest II, and Final Fantasy XI. At the user meets players of the games can come and discuss the current happenings of the games, in a "hopefully" calm environment. Cries of "For The Horde!", and "Down with the Empire!" shall abound. Come and see the thousands who play along with you in your world of choice. If you are interested in having a user meet at I-CON feel free to contact us at e_gaming@iconsf.org.
