Children's Programming
I-CON 25 is fast approaching and many people are working to make it the best one yet! The aim of Children's
Programming is to bring all aspects of I-CON to the children and their families that attend. Science, science
fiction, fantasy, anime, medieval, and gaming are as interesting to our children as it is to us and Children's is
here to present it in a way they can understand and enjoy the most. We also are working on programming that parents
can enjoy as well, starting with panels and discussions about the future of the family and education.
We are is expanding to offer even more this year by aiming to have two rooms running this year to double our
programming! One room will continue to be an activity room with art projects, games, and toys available during most
of the convention. This room is intended for younger children and children who would rather not attend group
activities. Various games and contests will be held there such as a costume contest and art contests. The second room
will be for organized activities and panels that may interest you, the parents.
We will be running a Yu-Gi-Oh tournament, with the help of the CCG Track, aimed at younger children rather than
facing much older competitors. We are inviting back Chris Negri, author the of the children's RPG "Toyin' Around".
Last year he debuted his RPG, written specifically for children, and it was a blast! We are also inviting back Diane
Schips who ran a soap-making demo for us and Nancy Scuri who has run a Writing Workshop for the past several
years.
We are working on several panels. Some proposed topics are: "Science Fiction in the Classroom", "The Evolving
Family", "What Anime/Science Fiction Shows are Appropriate for my Family?" and "Violence in the Media". If you have
an opinion on any of these topics and would like to sit on the panel email me! Also if you would like to help out at
all there are staff and program participant slots available. Just email me!
As I-CON draws closer we'll be back to fill you in on what's going on and when. Check back with us soon!
