The Long Island Advanced Rocketry Society (LIARS) will be returning to I-CON 24, and with a special guest, Mr. Eric Knight, an inventor and rocket enthusiast who helped CSXT "GoFast" into space, a first for civilian rocketry! The LIARS demonstration rocket launch has been a favorite activity in the past, and we hope for clear skies, low winds, and lots of applause from you on their behalf as their hard work soars above the campus.

I-CON 24 is proud to have invited Mr. Michael Laine from the LiftPort group - who expect to have an elevator up to Earth Orbit in the year 2018. Talk about science fiction become reality! Carbon nanotubes are the crux of their project. Nanotechnology is very hot at Brookhaven Lab, and on campus at Stony Brook. What would you like to know about these tiniest building blocks?

Include Stony Brook's Astronomy Open Night beginning at 7:30 pm April 8 in your itinerary! Weather permitting, we will have our usual viewing through the 14" telescope following the lecture. If amateurs wish to bring their telescopes and set them up on the roof, that should not be a problem either Friday or Saturday. Note, however, that campus safety recently installed locks on the doors to the roof to restrict access and the last flight up to the roof has no elevator. If your 'scope is large, by all means bring an extra friend to help you carry it, and help them see the stars!

So much hype about space must lead your eyes upwards - come and check out the Star Party on the evening of April 9th. We've done it before, we're doing it again.

Much more is in store, stay tuned!
