Directions to Stony Brook University
Directions to the
campus can be found on the Stony Brook University website (http://www.stonybrook.edu/sb/directions.shtml) Rail Road
If one is traveling by train from Penn Station (LIRR, Long Island
Rail Road), please note that there are **two** rail lines useful
for getting to I-CON 2004.
Port Jefferson Rail Road Line
The Port Jefferson rail road line will get you directly to Stony
Brook University (SBU) campus at the penultimate stop, Stony
Brook. This is where I-CON 2004
is held, and as soon as one walks off the south side of the **Stony Brook**
train platform one is on campus. See below for LIRR group discounts. Limited
Shuttle bus service from the official hotel, the Holiday Inn Ronkonkoma,
to/from campus will be provided. The hours of operation of the SBU/official
hotel shuttle are to be announced. Shuttle service to other hotels is not
currently available.
The Ronkonkoma Railroad Line and the Islip/MacArthur Airport
Islip/MacArthur Airport and/or the Ronkonkoma railroad line will
get you close to the official convention hotel, the Holiday
Inn Ronkonkoma (this is NOT
the Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook which is NOT the official hotel).
If one arrives at Islip/MacArthur Airport or the Ronkonkoma train
station and is staying at the official convention hotel, the
Holiday Inn Ronkonkoma
operates
a complimentary Area Shuttle within a 3 MI radius of the hotel between
the hours of 5am to 1am, and one has to call the hotel (631-585-9500,
Eileen)
to be picked up either at the Islip/MacArthur Airport (usually close
to baggage
claim) or on the south side of Ronkonkoma tracks (where the big parking
lot is). This is convenient for getting to the official hotel
from either the
Islip/MacArthur Airport (1 MI/ 1.61 KM) or the Ronkonkoma railroad station
(2 MI/ 3.22 KM),
but leaves one taking another shuttle to the convention (see above).
Islip/MacArthur Airport Taxi Options
If one arrives at the Islip/MacArthur Airport at a time when
the Holiday Inn Ronkonkoma's LIRR/Airport shuttle is not operating
there is a Taxi Stand at the airport that costs $20 to the
official
hotel; however, Danny from Sunset Taxi, 631-588-5558, charges
only $8 for the first person and $1 each additional person
for a ride from the Islip/MacArthur Airport to the Holiday
Inn Ronkonkoma
(and $16-$18 to Stony Brook University).
Ronkonkoma Train Station Taxi Options
If one arrives at the Ronkonkoma train station at a time when
the Holiday Inn Ronkonkoma's LIRR/Airport shuttle is not operating
there is a Taxi Stand by the pizza shop on the north side of
the tracks also run by Danny from Sunset Taxi 631-588-5558
(again
$8 for the first person and $1 each additional person for a
ride from the Ronkonkoma station to the Holiday Inn Ronkonkoma;
$16-$18
to Stony Brook University).
LIRR Discounts
If a group of people takes the LIRR (train) to/from
Penn to either Stony Brook or Ronkonkoma train station, there is
a ten trip
discount ticket from zone
one (off-peak). It is called a "ten trip". It has ten tickets which
can be used by an individual or group for not surprisingly any combination
of ten trips between the two zones. The off-peak ten-trip price to Ronkonkoma
is $12 cheaper than ten one way or round trip off-peak tickets (either way).
The off-peak ten-trip price to Stony Brook is $12 cheaper than ten one way
or round trip tickets (either way).
