Dr. Samuel Conway AKA "Uncle Kage"
(click for his web site)

Scientist, author and storyteller Dr. Samuel Conway, known among Anthropomorphics fans as "Uncle Kage" (http://www.unclekage.com), will be joining us this year as our Furry guest of honor.   A native of Pennsylvania, where he still resides, he holds a doctorate in chemistry from Dartmouth and has conducted research over the years in the pharmaceutical, biomedical, and agrochemical fields.   When not in the laboratory he spends his time playing on his computer, working with birds of prey (he has a particular passion for the red-tailed hawk) and writing.  His work has appeared in "Flights of Fantasy," a story anthology edited by Mercedes Lackey, and in numerous small-press publications.

In the "furry" world he is best known for his appearances on stage in what has become known as "Uncle Kage's Story Hour," where he entertains audiences with tales of his numerous adventures.  Some of them may seem rather improbable, but every one of them, he swears, is the absolute truth.  He is also recognized for his skills as an auctioneer.  His entertaining style, learned from such fine masters as Phil Foglio and the late Joe Mayhew, has helped earn tens of thousands of dollars for charitable causes both inside and outside of the fandom.

Since 1998 he has been chairman of Anthrocon (http://www.anthrocon.org), the world's largest anthropomorphics convention with 1650 members at last count.   It is held in Philadelphia every year in July and draws in furry fans from fifty states and seventeen countries.

If you are wondering why the moniker "Uncle Kage"...well, there's a story behind that.  Ask him about it sometime!

Daphne Lage
(artist of TALL TAILS - Dream Weaver Press)

Born in Valencia, Spain and currently a New York resident, Daphne Lage has been drawing for as long as she can remember. Totally enchanted and inspired by the work of Walt Disney, it was her first dream to become a full-time animator for Walt Disney Productions. But that want for an animation career came to a screeching halt as she entered her high school years and discovered comics.

While in high school she became a member of Golden Realm Unlimited, the brainchild of JD Calderon, writer and still Daphne's business and personal partner. He had started his own comic book company and was looking for an artist who could draw animal-people for his comic TALL TAILS. It was through this effort that she learned to take advantage of the comics medium and from that point on, Daphne decided she was going to be a comic book illustrator. Everything came to a head during her college years at the School of Visual Arts when she entered under the tutelage of comic book legend, Will Eisner. She began her publishing career with a short illustrated story in WILL EISNER'S GALLERY, a college publication in which she was also the editor. REVELATIONS, her first actual comic in which TALL TAILS debuted, was also finally published by GRU around that time as well. TALL TAILS eventually saw print later on after REVELATIONS but saw publication only up to its third issue.

After years of freelancing Daphne is returning to her self-publishing roots, continuing TALL TAILS with JD Calderon through Dream Weaver Press (formerly Golden Ream Unlimited). You can check out her work and current issues at www.dreamweaverpress.com and www.egoworks.com
